As part of our intercultural training for managers, who will work in Austria or with Austrians for the first time, we suggests a number of books to read. This includes works by historians. Clearly, in order to understand Austria today and its capital Vienna, a study of the past is inevitable. Studying the history to better understand the present is valuable in many fields. A key work analysing Vienna in the late 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, at the time at which Vienna was considered “the capital of the world” is Carl E. Schorske’s book “Fin-De-Siecle Vienna: Politics and Culture”. The author has received Pulitzer Prize for this work in 1981. Carl Emil Schorske was born on 15 March 1915 in New York. He is an American cultural historian, professor emeritus at Princeton University and was previously a professor at Harvard University.
A highly recommended book for all who prepare for Vienna and Austria!
